Objectives
The Community Advocacy Programme aims to empower individuals and communities to raise their voices, influence local governance, and promote social justice. Our objectives include:
- Developing advocacy and communication skills for marginalized communities.
- Creating awareness of community rights and responsibilities.
- Supporting local leadership and citizen engagement in policy dialogue.
- Enhancing transparency, accountability, and participatory governance.
Target Groups
Our programme focuses on diverse community members and advocacy stakeholders, including:
- Rural and urban community leaders and volunteers.
- Youth and women interested in civic participation.
- Community-based organisations (CBOs) and local NGOs.
- Traditional leaders, faith-based leaders, and social mobilisers.
Methods
The programme uses participatory, locally grounded methods:
- Workshops on civic education, public speaking, and advocacy strategy.
- Community dialogues, townhall sessions, and policy briefings.
- Mentorship and coaching from experienced advocates.
- Digital tools for mobilisation, reporting, and civic tracking.
Success Stories
In 2024, more than 300 citizens participated in public consultations across 10 districts. One notable story includes the leadership of Thandiwe Moyo, who successfully led a campaign for safe water access in her village, resulting in municipal action and infrastructure improvement. Community voices are not only being heard but shaping real change.
Partnerships
This programme thrives through collaboration. Key partners include:
- ZimRights and Zimbabwe Human Rights Association for rights education.
- Zimbabwe Council of Churches and traditional authorities for community mobilisation.
- Local government councils and ward committees for implementation support.
- International development partners supporting capacity building and resource mobilisation.
